West Virginia Spring Gobbler Season Set To Open

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources says spring gobbler season will open Monday and run through May 24.

Hunters may kill only one bearded turkey per day and are limited to two per season.

A one-day youth season will be held this Saturday. A turkey harvested that day counts toward the season limit of two.

Most birds harvested are about 2 years old. Based on 2012 brood reports that were lower than the five-year average, officials are expecting a lower statewide harvest in 2014.
