CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — Hunters killed a record 60 deer during Charleston's urban hunt.

The previous record was 54 deer killed in 2009.

City Manager David Molgaard told WSAZ-TV that 42 of the deer killed in 2010 were does.

The monthlong season ended Dec. 31.

The record came despite a drop in the number of permits issued. The city issued 124 permits, down from 184 in 2009.

Charleston has allowed deer hunting on approved tracts since 2005. Each year's kills have topped the previous year's total since then.
